Mr. Sandy's Homeless Veterans CenterIn February of 2017, Hayshire entered into a three-year covenant with Mr. Sandy’s Homeless Veterans Center. The agreement represents both a monetary commitment, as well as the promise of support for other needs that may arise for the organization. The community center provides emergency shelter and basic supplies such as food, clothing and transportation to those in need in our area. Our congregation has responded to the needs of Mr. Sandy’s in numerous ways. Monetary donations are collected through special yearly offerings during Lent and Advent and with the Souper Bowl of Caring offering collected in February each year. A collection bin in our worship space is filled with the congregation’s donations of immediate needs and practical items from the organization’s wish list. Special projects supporting Mr. Sandy’s have included filling backpacks with necessities for homeless patrons of the center and filling a scarf and mitten tree during Advent with practical and cold weather accessories the center can distribute to those in need.

Adopting Hayshire ElementarySince 2017, we have partnered with our neighbor, Hayshire Elementary, to provide support to the staff, students, or families in need. We have committed to respond to needs the school may have as we are made aware of them. Members of our congregation are always quick to respond when alerted that the staff is in need of donations, or a family or child needs a little support around the holidays. We also send volunteers to the school to help prepare food bags that are sent home on weekends to ensure that deserving children have something nutritious to eat.

Northeastern Food PantryOur congregation regularly responds to the needs of our community with donations of non-perishable food items to the Northeastern Food Pantry. The Food Pantry strives to fight hunger in our community while serving clients with an atmosphere of confidentiality, dignity, and respect. In an effort to help the pantry keep their shelves stocked throughout the year, the grocery cart that resides in our gathering area steadily fills each month. At the end of each month, a volunteer delivers the donations to the Northeastern Food Pantry, located at Starview UCC. What a wonderful way for us to share the bountiful blessings we have received from God.

Crop WalkEvery year in the Fall, a group of Hayshire members, families, and friends gather to participate in the York Metro CROP Hunger Walk. This event supports the work of Church World Service, providing things such as food, water, seeds, tools, wells, and water systems to empower people to meet their own needs.
Check back later in the year for more information on how to get involved or how to sponsor our team! |
